The situation

Foothills had 22 years of history, a truck fleet with three different logo versions on it, and a website built in 2014 that did not work on a phone. They got four inbound leads in a typical month, nearly all price shoppers.

The owner's goal was not more leads. It was better ones. He was tired of bidding against the cheapest guy in Loudon County for panel swaps.

The problem

Foothills looked like a commodity, so they got treated like one. Nothing about their brand, site, or search presence signaled that they did complex commercial work at a premium standard.

Fixing lead volume alone would have made this worse. More cheap leads is not a business improvement. The sequence mattered: position first, then build the site to prove the position, then drive search demand into it.

The work

Repositioned around complexity, not price

Narrowed the message to service upgrades, commercial tenant buildouts, and generator work. Walked away from advertising basic residential repair entirely.

Rebuilt the brand system

One logo, one color system, applied across trucks, uniforms, yard signs, proposals, and invoices inside 60 days.

Built a site that qualifies

Project galleries with real job detail, transparent starting price ranges, and a form that asks scope questions before it asks for a phone number.

Layered search on top

Service-area pages, Google Business Profile rebuild, and answer content aimed at the commercial buyer, not the homeowner.

The results

Measured in their CRM and accounting system at month 18 against the baseline month before work started.

  • Qualified inbound leads rose from 4 per month to 47.
  • Average job value rose 128%, driven mostly by the deliberate mix shift toward commercial and generator work.
  • Full payback on the entire investment landed at month 11.

Months one through three showed almost no lead movement. Brand and site work do not produce a fast curve, and pretending otherwise sets clients up to quit early.

Fewer tire kickers, bigger jobs. The first three months were quiet and I almost pulled the plug. Glad I did not.
