What are Webflow animations?
Webflow animations are motion effects built into a Webflow site, like reveals on scroll, hover states, menus and animated text. They are made with Webflow Interactions, which Webflow rebuilt on the GSAP animation library, or with custom GSAP code. Good animation points attention at what matters and never blocks the content.

Click, hover, page load and scroll triggers built visually, so your team can adjust them later.
GSAP when needed
Webflow owns GSAP and made it free, plugins included. We use it for effects beyond the panel.
Scroll effects
ScrollTrigger ties motion to scroll position for timelines and reveals, used with restraint.
Text animation
SplitText animates letters, words or lines, for a headline that earns attention once.
Reduced motion respected
If a visitor's device asks for less motion, effects switch off or calm down.
Speed checked
Animations load only on the pages that use them and get tested so they do not slow the page.

- 2Build in Interactions first. Native Webflow Interactions are easier for your team to maintain.
- 3Add GSAP code only when Interactions cannot do the effect, and comment it clearly.
- 4Set reduced-motion behavior so visitors who ask their device for less motion get a calm version.
- 5Test on real phones for smoothness, layout shift and load time before launch.

Common questions
Webflow animation questions, answered.
Is GSAP free to use in Webflow?
Yes. Webflow acquired GSAP and made it free for everyone, including plugins like SplitText that used to be paid. Webflow Interactions now run on GSAP too, so many effects can be built visually without writing any code, and custom GSAP code is there for the rest.
Do animations slow down a Webflow site?
They can, if there are too many or they load heavy files. We keep effects small, load them only on pages that use them, and avoid animating things that shift the layout. Then we test on a phone to make sure the page still loads and responds quickly.
What is prefers-reduced-motion?
It is a setting people turn on in their phone or computer to ask for less motion, often because animation makes them dizzy or distracted. Websites can read that setting. We build animations so they turn off or tone down for those visitors, and the content still shows right away.
Should I use Webflow Interactions or custom GSAP code?
Start with Interactions. They are built visually, your team can tweak them later, and they cover most effects a service business needs. We reach for custom GSAP code only for effects the panel cannot handle, and we leave notes so the next developer understands it.
What do Webflow animations cost?
Two parts. Your Webflow plan is billed by Webflow, and prices live at webflow.com/pricing. Our fee depends on how many pages and effects you want, and comes in writing after a 30-minute call. Interactions with GSAP come with Webflow plans at no extra cost.
